#MelissaAftermath: T&T sends eight containers of aid to Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced that eight containers of critical relief supplies are being shipped from the twin island republic to Jamaica to assist those affected by Hurricane Melissa.
In a post on X under the headline, “To Jamaica with Love from T&T,” Persad-Bissessar shared that she visited the Plipdeco warehouse in Point Lisas on Thursday to oversee the collection of relief items. The supplies were gathered through the support of national stakeholders, including the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association, the Trinidad and Tobago Supermarkets Association, and other private sector partners.
“Tonight, eight containers filled with essential supplies will depart Trinidad for Jamaica,” the prime minister said. “In addition, a team of Defence Force officers will be deployed to provide on-the-ground support and assistance.”
Persad-Bissessar also extended condolences to those who lost loved ones in the storm.
“Jamaica has always been a second home to me, as I spent 14 years of my life there as both a university student and lecturer,” she shared.
She added that the Inter-Ministerial Committee will continue to discuss the mobilisation of aid for other Caribbean countries impacted by the hurricane.
