Schools, churches in bad shape in St James
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Several schools and churches across St James have been badly damaged following the passage of Hurricane Melissa based on information coming forward.
Reports are that the Herbert Morrison Technical High School and the Corinaldi Avenue Primary School are among those that sustained damage to sections of their infrastructure throughout Tuesday.
Several other institutions in the parish have found their infrastructure compromised and will need remedial work to get things up and running again, which could take months in some instances.
The Hillview Baptist Church in Albion suffered extensive damage to its roofing and other sections of the building.
Schools and churches in the parish have long served as shelters during times of disasters but now these institutions find themselves in a crisis brought on by the storm.
It’s uncertain as to the full extent of those damaged as some communities are still cut off as roads remain impassable for vehicular traffic and support.
