SVREL issues update on Caymanas Park operations after Hurricane Melissa
In a press release issued by Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), the sole promoter of local racing in Jamaica, the company outlined the steps being taken to restore operations at Caymanas Park following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
As Jamaica begins the process of recovery and rebuilding, SVREL extends its thoughts to all individuals and families affected by the storm, expressing hope for their safety and well-being.
“In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, our thoughts are with everyone across Jamaica who has been affected. We hope that you and your loved ones are safe as our nation begins the process of recovery and rebuilding,” the release stated.
“At Caymanas Park, our team has been carefully assessing the impact of the storm. Preliminary checks have revealed damage to five stables, and repair crews are already on site carrying out restoration work. We are also addressing all electrical, structural, and technological issues with urgency to ensure the safety and smooth operation of our facilities. The racing surface, however, remains in excellent condition and is ready for exercise,” the released further stated.
In an effort to minimise disruptions to racing fans and enthusiasts, SVREL has announced that simulcast racing will resume on Friday, October 31, 2025 at Caymanas Park and select Off-Track Betting (OTB) locations in Kingston, St Andrew, and St Catherine.
While live racing remains suspended for now, a later date will be announced for its resumption.
OTB locations in other parishes will remain temporarily closed as assessments and recovery efforts continue. Updates on their reopening will be provided as soon as it is safe to do so.
“Our hearts go out to all who have been impacted by Hurricane Melissa. We stand together with you in strength and solidarity as we rebuild. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support,” the released end.
