Tajay Suckoo makes triumphant return to the saddle
Apprentice jockey Tajay Suckoo has marked his return to the saddle with a thrilling win aboard Noble Sovereign in the third race on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Suckoo’s victory was a testament to his determination and resilience, coming five months after a serious injury left him grounded.
In May, Suckoo suffered a nasty fall during a morning workout, resulting in a broken foot, ankle, and toe bone. However, he remained optimistic throughout his recovery, crediting his faith for keeping him calm and focused.
“I was calm and relaxed throughout my recovery because I knew that God was there for me,” Suckoo told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“My foot was broken in the process of the accident. I was out of the saddle for five months because I was waiting and recovering to come back in the saddle. My ankle and a toe bone were broken during the fall but I am okay now,” Suckoo said.
Noble Sovereign, owned and trained by Donovan Clarke, delivered an impressive performance, winning by 2 lengths in the Restricted Allowance V contest for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maidens) over 7 furlongs (1,400m). The winning time was 1:30.1 (24.0 x 49.0).
Noble Sovereign made a slow start but recovered nicely and settled into second position behind stablemate Noble Monarch, ridden by Ramon Nepare, leaving the 6-furlong (1,200m) marker.
Noble Sovereign bided his time until the final turn when he launched a strong attack, hugging the inside rails to devastating effect. He produced a powerful run to take the lead and won easily in the end.
Bubblingbrownsugar, ridden by Jahiem Anderson, finished second, with Bomb Night, ridden by Anthony Allen, taking third place.
Suckoo’s joy was palpable.
“Coming back and winning, I can’t really explain the feeling at the moment but am very happy to be back,” Suckoo said.
