WATCH: First responders say they are traumatised by Melissa
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Several first responders who spoke to Observer Online in Black River, St Elizabeth on Thursday say Hurricane Melissa has left them scarred.
Many did not wish to speak on record, only shaking their heads or putting their faces in their hands.
The reactions came from even those trained to handle stressful situations.
Firefighters, soldiers and volunteers who spoke to the team, but requested not to be quoted directly, all used the same word: traumatised.
The men described back-to-back rescues and the terror of the rising water and wind.
Black River Firefighters Francis and Roach requested that their faces not be shown, but spoke to the experience.
