Israeli medical team arrives Thursday for post-hurricane humanitarian mission
A 40-member medical delegation from Israel is scheduled to arrive in Jamaica on Thursday to assist in humanitarian relief efforts in response to Hurricane Melissa’s devastating impact on a section of the island.
The initiative, jointly coordinated by Israel’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was organised at the invitation of Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness.
The mission aims to complement Jamaica’s national response by providing specialised medical expertise and technical assistance in affected areas.
“The delegation is led by Dr Joseph Mendlovic, deputy director-general of Israel’s Ministry of Health, and Professor Ofer Marin who is internationally recognised for his expertise in disaster medicine and humanitarian field operations,” Israel’s ambassador to Jamaica Raslan Abu Rukun told Observer Online Thursday morning.
“Tomorrow morning they will split into two groups and go to two hospitals in the affected areas,” Ambassador Abu Rukun added.
He said the team comprises doctors, nurses, and paramedical professionals from various fields, including emergency medicine, paediatrics, women’s health, public health, and other sectors.
Ambassador Abu Rukun said the team is expected to spend two weeks.
