Freak storm causes anxiety in several St James communities
ST JAMES, Jamaica — High winds triggered panic in several St James communities on Friday afternoon.
South St James was the area that felt it the most, and for Marcia Anderson, a resident of the Tangle River community, it was frightening.
“We just saw the trees, the bamboos just start sway and leaves started to fly but it stopped shortly after,” she told Observer Online.” But then the place get white like the rain was going to come down but it didn’t fall.”
She continued, “When I saw it I was thinking if another system is out and we didn’t know because one of my relatives overseas called me last night and was saying that she sees where they say that a next system is out that might be affecting us as well.”
“That came to my mind that this was it and so I was like not so quick but it stopped shortly after,” she said.
Another woman from the Meadows of Irwin community, who opted not to give her name, shared that the situation was equally traumatic for her.
“I almost had a panic attack over here at Meadows of Irwin. Felt like Melissa all over again,” she said.
She, on the other hand, experienced sustained showers for a bit along with the high wind.
“My patio is soaked; it was so windy. Water poured in through the top of my bedroom window just like it did during Melissa. I had to get the towels again, just like during Melissa. It feels like it lasted 20 minutes,” she said.
