Sunderland look to upset leaders Arsenal in EPL action

Surprise package Sunderland will host high-flying English Primier League (EPL) leaders Arsenal in an eagerly anticipated clash on Saturday, then on Sunday EPL giants Manchester City and Liverpool are set to serve up another blockbuster encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

Event # 1 –EPL– Sunderland vs Arsenal– 12:30PM

Sunderland has been this season’s surprise package and is flying high in fourth place in the league standing after winning promotion back to the Premier League last season. If anyone had told a Sunderland fan last season that his/her team would be sitting fourth in the Premier League table after 10 matches, he/she would have laughed and asked if you’re drunk, but here they are, fourth in the table, unbeaten at home in the league so far, and has lost just one of their last eight overall matches. Sunderland’s Stadium of Light might be their stadium of luck, as the last time they beat Arsenal in any competition came at home, but that 1-0 win came all the way back in 2009 — and Arsenal have since gone unbeaten in their last 15 straight matches against Sunderland.

Trophies may not be handed out in November, but teams can break records at any time of the season, and leaders and high-flying Arsenal has done that by earning another clean sheet in Champions League mid-week action against Slavia Prague. Their 0-3 win away at Alavia Prague means Arsenal has now kept eight clean sheets in a row for the first time in 122 years, and another win with a clean sheet tomorrow would mean the longest winning streak without conceding a goal in English football history. With that said, Arsenal’s clean sheet run is eye catching, but it’s worth noting that they have won 10 games in a row in all competitions and can match a club record of 11 wins in succession tomorrow. The Gunners will also be aiming for a seventh straight away wins in all competitions since losing at Liverpool.

Key Stats

•Sunderland – Sunderland has failed to score in two of the last three home matches against Arsenal but is one of the five clubs that are still unbeaten at home this season.

•Arsenal – Arsenal hasn’t conceded a goal since mid-September and has won eight straight matches without conceding a single goal home or away. Arsenal has a winning streak of 9 straight matches and are unbeaten in 12.

•Both sides – Arsenal has won 2-0 of the last three matches, while Sunderland has lost three straight matches against Arsenal.

The betting Tip. Arsenal win.

Event # EPL– Man. City vs Liverpool– 11:30AM

The Premier League serves up another blockbuster classic on Sunday when Manchester City welcomes Liverpool to the Etihad in what promises to be another captivating encounter between the two English giants. Indeed, Manchester City will be looking to move four points clear of reigning Premier League champions Liverpool when they renew their fierce rivalry. This blockbuster clash isn’t just another game, it’s a battle for early supremacy in the title race, and with Arsenal opening a gap on both teams, that’s starting to look significant. Both Man City and Liverpool know that dropping points here could effectively end their title hopes before December comes around.

Liverpool’s mini crisis appears to be over following two consecutive wins against in-form oppositions. Firstly, they beat Aston Villa last weekend and then delivered a dominant display while beating Real Madrid in mid-week Champions League action. However, Manchester City come into this game brimming with confidence and are in excellent form as they have won four of their last five matches, including a 5-1 thrashing of Burnley last weekend, only a narrow 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa has recently blemished their record. Prior to Liverpool’s victories over Aston Villa and Real Madrid, they had hit a brick wall, after an excellent start to the season, where they won seven straight matches, then lost seven of their next eight in all competitions. With that said, the Man City vs Liverpool rivalry has become one of the most compelling in English football in recent times, so much so that since 2017/18 these two sides have shared every Premier League title and their duels often decide the destination of the trophy.

Key Stats

• Man City – Has won seven of their last 10 matches and have four-straight wins in the Premier League.

• Liverpool – Has lost their last three aways matches in all competitions but have lost just one of their last five meetings with Man City.

• Both sides — Last season Liverpool won both matches against City (2-0 at home and 2-0 away).

The betting Tip. Man City win.
