UCC begins roll out of relief supplies to students and staff impacted by Melissa
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) says its post-hurricane relief efforts got underway Tuesday with the delivery of relief packages to its Montego Bay campus in St James through the UCC Foundation (UCCF).
“We stand in solidarity with our UCC family and all Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Melissa,” said Professor Colin Gyles, president of UCC. “Our priority is to ensure the well-being of our students and staff as we work together to rebuild and recover.”
According to Gyles, this initiative by the UCCF forms part of its broader efforts to sustain student engagement in planned phases, as well as the repair of infrastructure following thorough damage assessments.
The UCCF has announced plans to extend similar relief missions to other regional campuses across the island in the coming days.
“The university continues to offer its thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by the hurricane and reaffirms its commitment to providing meaningful support during this time of need,” said Gyles.
The relief packages contained bottled water, non-perishable food items, toiletries, sanitary products, and articles of clothing.
According to the UCC, reports indicate that several staff members and students have experienced significant losses, including damage to homes and personal property.
