J’can students ace several units in CAPE 2025 exams

Guy's Hill High, McGrath High among region's best

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican students continued their excellent academic performances in the June 2025 Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) examinations, ranking among the best in Units 1 and 2 of various subjects in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

According to the CAPE Merit List released by CXC on Thursday, Jamaican students placed first in the region in Unit 1 subject areas of Accounting, Geography, Computer Science, Law, Management of Business, Food and Nutrition, among others.

Several non-traditional high schools, including Guy’s Hill High School and McGrath High School, had students finishing among the region’s best in agricultural science.

Campion College’s Jonathan Harvey placed first in the region in Accounting Unit 1, while his schoolmate, Myles Anthony Morris was joint third place with two students from Barbados. Six other Campionites also ranked in the top 11 in that subject area.

 

Also, Harvey was joint second in the region in Economics.

Another Campionite, Dominic Kyle Haisley, will receive the top regional prize for Computer Science.

St Jago High School in St Catherine through Alestaja Forbes and St Hugh’s High School’s Khadeja Henry were first and second, respectively, in Food and Nutrition Unit 1.

Jamaica College’s Daniel Peart aced French, finishing atop the Caribbean. So, too, did Campion College’s Keira Halliburton in Geography. In addition, Halliburton was second in the region in Literatures in English.

In Law, Jamaican students grabbed nine of ten spots in the region, with Dajanae Dawkins of Immaculate Conception High School sitting atop her regional peers. Also finishing in the Top 10 was Manchester High School’s Reanna Brown, who tied in ninth place with Meadowbrook High School’s Sharissa Daley.

Other first place finishes in Unit 1 for the Caribbean by Jamaican students included Analese Brown of Campion College in Management of Business; Zanaa Ferguson of St Hugh’s High School – Animation and Design (she also copped joint second place in Digital Media); Alestaja Forbes of St Jago High School – Entrepreneurship; Jamaica College’s Devon Barnes in Tourism; Kerece Walters of DeCarteret College in Logistics and Supply Chain Operations; Janathan Brown of Glenmuir High School – Building and Mechanical Engineering Drawing; Jaden Simpson of Herbert Morrison Technical High School in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, and the Institute of Career Choice’s Luan Aston Henry in Financial Services.

There were excellent performances from other Jamaicans in various subjects in CAPE Units 1.

For Applied Mathematics, Javille Christaj Brown, who attended St Jago High Evening Institute, was second in the region. Notably, Brown topped the region in CSEC Industrial Technology (Electrical) for Campion College.

Another Campionite, Abigail Brown was second in the region in Biology Unit 1, while the Hampton School’s Oneisha Aikens was fourth in Chemistry.

 

In Agricultural Science Unit 1, Joel Shaw of McGrath High School, a non-traditional high school based in St Catherine, was fifth in the region, while Anna-Kaye Elizabeth Thompson of Guy’s Hill High School, another non-traditional high school from St Catherine, placed ninth in the Caribbean.

Nia Dixon of Immaculate Conception High School was fourth in the region in Arts and Design Unit 1.

Among Jamaica’s first place regional performers in CAPE Unit 2 subjects were Campion College’s Kayla Wright in Biology, and Brianna Barrett in Economics; Wolmer’s Girls’ Janelle Saunders in Food and Nutrition; Kailani Lodge of Hampton School in Law; Ardenne High School’s Geraldo McGowan in Performing Arts (Cinematic Arts); Shaniel Mills of Immaculate Conception High School – Digital Media; St Hilda’s High School’s Dervette Mignott – Logistics and Supply Chain Operations; Jordan Edwards of York Castle High School and Arthur Pinnock of Kingston Technical Evening Institute in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Options A and B, respectively, and Tareak Woodbine of Institute of Career Choice in Financial Services.

 

Finishing in runner-up positions in the region for Jamaica were St Andrew High School for Girls’ Gayle Heath in Arts and Design (second place); Wolmer’s Girls’ Arriyanna Grant in Computer Science (third place); Alana Batchelor, who attends St Andrew High School for Girls, in History (second place), and Kai Rafael Diaz of Campion College in Physics (joint second place).
