TAJ reopens key offices after Hurricane Melissa
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has reopened its May Pen, St Ann’s Bay and Santa Cruz tax offices, following Hurricane Melissa.
According to TAJ, services are being restored on a phased basis, with minor repairs, clean-up operations and restoration of power and information and communications technology connectivity supporting the resumption.
As at Monday, TAJ has resumed operations at 18 out of 30 tax offices. Other reopened locations include Kingston Revenue Service Centre, Spanish Town, Portmore, Linstead, Old Harbour, Morant Bay, Port Morant, Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax Office (Air Jamaica Building), St Andrew Revenue Service Centre, Cross Roads Tax Office and Non-Cash Office, Port Maria, Port Antonio, Mandeville Revenue Service Centre, Lionel Town, Chapelton, Large Taxpayer Office (Kingston), and several business offices.
TAJ’s customer care centre and offices at Oxford Road, Kingston Mall, Regal Plaza, PCJ Building, Ocean Boulevard, Stores Newport West, Air Jamaica Building, and Corporate Office at East Street have also reopened.
It said additional locations may resume service as power, water and internet connectivity improve. Offices in the worst-affected areas might remain closed for an extended period.
Customers can access mandatory electronic filing and payments via TAJ’s website, as well as direct funds transfer for business tax payments, and online platforms for Scotia and National Commercial Bank (NCB).
The website also supports fitness certificate payments, settlement of property tax, traffic ticket fines, and renewal of private motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licences. Those who renew their licence online may operate vehicles with the receipt and expired licence for up to 60 days, subject to the application form and passport photo submission for card printing.
