CB Foods reports disruption in egg supply following Hurricane Melissa
KINGSTON, Jamaica — CB Foods has announced that its egg supply has been disrupted following severe damage to its Bamboo, St Ann egg farm caused by Hurricane Melissa.
In a statement to customers, the company said, “We know the past weeks have been difficult for many. Our hearts are with everyone affected. Like so many, our CB Foods family has also felt the impact.”
As a result, popular brands Smart Eggs and Chippenham Eggs will be unavailable until further notice. The company assured the public that efforts are underway to rebuild operations and restore supply as soon as possible.
CB Foods thanked customers for their patience, understanding and continued support as the company and the wider community work toward recovery.
The announcement was made in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Floyd Green told Parliament that the poultry sector was severely hit, with 458,000 layers or 50 per cent of the laying flock lost. To address this, the minister announced the importation of eggs and other household food items to stabilise supply.
