Police investigating double murder of St Catherine teacher and student
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The police have launched an investigation into the murder of a teacher and a high school student after their bodies were discovered at a premises in Mount View, near St Jago Heights in St Catherine on Thursday.
Dead are 29-year-old Tara Pinnock, who worked at a St Catherine-based primary school, and 14-year-old Tally Wright.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Hopton Nicholson, officers were alerted to suspicious activities on a Mount View premises sometime after 1:00 pm and upon entering, their bodies were discovered.
Nicholson said both victims were found with what appeared to be stab wounds all over the body.
He explained that early findings suggest the perpetrator(s) had access to the home.
“Preliminary investigations have not revealed any forced entry,” he said, adding that detectives will be conducting a thorough investigation.
Describing the attack as a “cowardly act”, SSP Nicholson said investigators believe the murders may have stemmed from a domestic situation.
To assist with the case, police are urging Brandon Maine, a taxi operator who drives the Spanish Town to Naggo Head route, to immediately turn himself in.
“We believe that Mr Maine can assist us with this ongoing investigation, and we ask him to immediately hand himself over to the police,” Nicholson stated.
The senior officer is also appealing to citizens for assistance.
“Any citizen who may have seen or heard something that can assist in this investigation [is asked] to do so,” he said.
