Christopher Martin Foundation brings hope to children affected by Hurricane Melissa
The Christopher Martin Foundation partnered with the Bright Beginnings Charity Group to support the ‘Bringing Hope’ initiative, a youth-led effort dedicated to bringing relief and emotional comfort to children displaced and deeply affected by Hurricane Melissa.
The partnership brought warmth and support to more than 200 children between the ages of 10 and 16 in Trelawny.
The effort focused on the communities of Zion and Kinloss, as well as children temporarily housed at Holland High School and William Knibb High School.
Representing a new generation of changemakers committed to social responsibility, the Bright Beginnings Initiative, founded by Campion College students Kris-Sarai Martin and Anna-Lyssa Cooke, mobilised volunteers, the Christopher Martin Foundation, and generous corporate partners on November 2, 2025 to distribute care packages containing hygiene kits, snacks, juices, water, clothing, and comfort items. The initiative also provided hot meals, phone charging stations, and basic medical support.
Christopher Martin, international reggae/dancehall artiste, songwriter, and founder of the foundation, shared how deeply moved he was by the devastation across the island, saying: “It broke my heart to see the reports and images of the destruction our brothers and sisters are facing right here on our beautiful island. Jamaica is my home, and when I see our people suffering, especially our children, it hits me to my core. I knew I had to help.”
He continued, “When Kris-Sarai and Anna-Lyssa came to me with their idea to focus on children who might be overlooked in the broader relief efforts, I was ready to support them in any way I could. Our children are our future, and it’s our duty to teach them how to care for each other, especially in times of need. These young ladies are proof that compassion and leadership start early.”
Special thanks are extended to the corporate sponsors whose generosity helped make the mission possible: Hyundai Jamaica, Digicel Jamaica, Wisynco Group Limited, Big Yard Studios, and Tango Entertainment.
“Kris-Sarai and Anna-Lyssa, continue to drive change and inspire your peers. You’ve shown that no act of kindness is too small and that together, we can all make a difference,” Martin charged.
