Curacao coach Advocaat leaves camp for personal reasons ahead of Jamaica match

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Curacao head coach Dick Advocaat has left his team’s training camp in Kingston, ahead of Tuesday’s deciding World Cup qualifier against Jamaica, due to personal reasons.

The announcement was made by the country’s football federation on Saturday evening.

“We respect the decision of the head coach. The entire federation fully supports him,” said the federation’s President Gilbert Martina.

During Advocaat’s absence, assistant coaches Dean Gorré and Cor Pot will jointly oversee all training sessions, match preparations and team-related activities, the federation said.

It added that Advocaat will remain actively involved in key decisions regarding tactical matters and player management for the upcoming fixture as Gorré and Pot will stay in close and regular contact with him.

Curacao lead the qualification group on 11 points, ahead of Jamaica on 10 points, and need just a draw to earn an automatic qualification to the 2026 World Cup.

The ‘Blue Stars’ beat the Reggae Boyz 2-0 when the teams met last month in Curacao.
