Discovery Bauxite supplying thousands with water during hurricane recovery
ST ANN, Jamaica — Discovery Bauxite is providing water to communities across St Ann and neighboring parishes, supplying thousands of gallons each day as Jamaica continues recovery efforts following the recent hurricane.
With National Water Commission (NWC) supplies significantly reduced due to storm-related disruptions, the company’s water wells in Discovery Bay have become an essential source for residents, schools, agencies, and relief organisations. Water trucks have been loading at the facility from as far as Montego Bay, where the Convention Centre hosts an arm of the World Central Kitchen team preparing thousands of meals daily for distribution in the hardest-hit areas.
Discovery Bauxite’s water resources are being used to support communities, schools, and agencies across St. Ann. An open water standpipe near the company’s public clinic in Jacks Lodge district has also been busy, drawing residents from the company’s operating areas and beyond.
Gratitude has been pouring in from individuals who have relied on the service during the crisis.
Pauline White, a small business operator from Farm Town, described the support as “a lifeline during a period when access to the NWC supplies are down.”
Private truck operator Linburgh Gayle also welcomed the assistance, noting that he is responding to daily requests for water from “schools, churches, families and scores of individuals in need.”
The company acknowledged the widespread hardship caused by the hurricane.
“We sympathise with the thousands of Jamaicans who have lost lives and homes and their livelihood as a result of the hurricane and will continue to do our part to assist with water and other relief items so long as our pumps are able to carry the additional loads,” the statement read.
“Our supplies are important to hundreds of persons who travel from local communities and nearby parishes to get water, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be of assistance in this time of national need,” it added.
