Bob & Rita Marley Foundation launches relief, rebuilding efforts
In the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa, the Bob & Rita Marley Foundation has committed to standing strong with the people of Jamaica.
Working in tandem with the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), the group is continuing to mobilise immediate relief efforts, delivering food, clean water, hygiene kits, and emergency supplies to communities hardest hit by the Category 5 storm.
Dubbed #OneLoveinAction, the foundation has also partnered with Food For the Poor, grass roots groups, and an official GoFundMe collaboration with Jamaican-born UFC World Champion Aljamain Sterling.
According to a release, the foundation’s efforts mark the first phase of a longer rebuilding mission focused on roofing repairs, home restoration, and community infrastructure support.
“This is not charity. This is the continuation of a movement rooted in music, humanity, and the unbreakable spirit of Jamaica,” a part of the release read as it shared that the foundation echoes Bob and Rita’s mission to empower and heal through love and solidarity.
The Bob and Rita Marley Foundation team has, to date, impacted over 3,000 families across the parishes of Westmoreland and St Ann.
“One Love isn’t just a song or a slogan… It’s action! It’s a call to act with compassion and unity,” said Alicia Williams, manager of the Bob and Rita Marley Foundation. She added, “#OneLoveinAction means showing up for each other today, and for as long as recovery takes.”
