Zulu Warrior spints home with URTAJ Trophy feature
Zulu Warrior demonstrated good versatility, effortlessly brushing aside rivals to win the $1.25-million StarGas United Racehorse Trainers Association of Jamaica (URTAJ) Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
The O&S Racers-owned, Adrian Prince-trained colt, ridden by apprentice Tyrese Anderson, dominated the Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for native-bred three-year-olds and upward over six furlongs (1,200m), winning by 2 ½ lengths.
Zulu Warrior led early but let Comehometome (Abigail Able) take charge near the half-mile mark. However, turning for home, the four-year-old chestnut colt unleashed a powerful surge that carried him to victory ahead of Oil Machine (Tajay Suckoo) and and Provident (Tevin Foster). The winning time was 1:14.3.
It was the second winner on the nine-race card for O&S Racers and Prince as they won the previous race with Shooting Star, ridden by Raddesh Roman.
Also with two winners on the day was trainer Ryan Darby. Darby was successful in the opening event with Don Almighty (Paul Francis) and in the sixth race with Green Gold Rush (Tevin Foster).
Racing continues today, the highly anticipated Jamaica Cup race day.
