Digicel says vandalism on Catherine Hall site delays restoration work
Communications company Digicel is reporting that critical batteries were discovered to be stolen at one of its network sites in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, on Monday, November 17.
According to the company in a media release on Monday, the site had recently been repaired as part of post–Hurricane Melissa restoration efforts.
This latest attack comes days after Digicel CEO Stephen Murad addressed Parliament last Wednesday, warning that repeated acts of vandalism continue to undermine the company’s ability to restore services quickly across the island.
In this photo shared by Digicel Jamaica, the company shows vandalism to one of its sites at Catherine Hall in St James.
Digicel said the theft at the Catherine Hall location has stalled the restoration progress, forcing its teams to divert resources to redo work that had already been completed.
The incident has been reported to the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Digicel is also urging members of the public to report any suspicious activity around network sites and fibre routes, as these acts directly delay restoration efforts and affect connectivity for surrounding communities. Reports can be made to the Jamaica Constabulary Force or via Digicel’s dedicated WhatsApp line at 876-355-5000.
