A history of Jamaica’s FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns

2022 – World Cup Qatar

– Finished sixth in eight-team final qualifying round with two wins, five draws and seven losses. Scored 12 goals, conceded 22.

– Coached by Theodore Whitmore, then Paul Hall

 

2018 – World Cup Russia

– Finished fourth and last in Group B of semi-final round of qualifying. Won one game, drew one, lost four. Scored two goals, conceded ten.

– Coached by Winfried Schaefer

 

2014 – World Cup Brazil

– Finished sixth and last in final qualifying round (more commonly called the Hex) with no wins, five draws and five losses. Scored five goals, conceded 13.

– Coached by Theodore Whitmore

 

2010 – World Cup South Africa

– Finished third of four in Group 2 of semi-final round of qualifying. Won three games, drew one, lost two. Scored six goals, conceded six.

– Coached by Rene Simoes, then John Barnes

 

2006 – World Cup Germany

– Finished third of four in Group 1 of semi-final round of qualifying. Won one, drew four, lost one. Scored seven goals, conceded five.

– Coached by Sebastiao Lazaroni

2002 – World Cup Korea & Japan

– Finished fifth of six teams in Hex with two wins, two draws and six losses. Scored seven goals, conceded 14.

– Coached by Clovis de Oliviera

 

1998 – World Cup France

– Qualified for World Cup

– Finished third in Group H in first round with one win, no draws and two losses. Scored three goals, conceded nine.

– Coached by Rene Simoes

 

1994 – World Cup USA

– Finished third of four teams in Group B of semi-final round of qualifying. Won one, drew two, lost three. Scored six, conceded nine.

– Coached by Carl Brown

 

1970 – World Cup Mexico

– Finished sixth of six teams at 1969 Concacaf Championships. Won none, drew one, lost four. Scored three, conceded 10.

– Coached by George Hamilton.

 

*Concacaf Championships served as qualifier for FIFA World Cups until 1990. Jamaica did not participate in 1973, 1977, 1981, 1985, or 1988 championships.
