Legends Are Forever still on
Legends Are Forever, a show scheduled for November 29 at Stafford Block Factory in Summerfield, Clarendon, is still on despite damage to that parish caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Promoter Donovan Anderson told the Jamaica Observer that honouring veteran artistes remains the show’s focus. But his team is also looking at assisting people in Clarendon who were affected by the Category 5 hurricane.
“We are in the process of working out something, what to do for the community of our choice in Clarendon, for the people who are in need of help. We haven’t come up with the solution as yet, but we are working on something,” he said.
The Clarendon Municipal Corporation reports that the parish’s agricultural sector took a hit from Melissa, with farms in the northern areas most affected.
Anderson, who lives in Clarendon, decided to stage a concert highlighting the achievements of stalwart artistes. Legends Are Forever features Capleton, Tony Rebel, Admiral Tibet, Junior Reid, Errol Dunkley, Natty King, Mikey General, and Frisco Kid.
He chose Clarendon because it is the birthplace of legends such as Toots Hibbert, Derrick Morgan, Cocoa Tea, Freddie McGregor, and Millie Small.
“I do not think enough is being done to celebrate our legends, and that’s why we need more good promoters to continue the journey like Rebel Salute,” he said.
Anderson was born in Kingston and started out in the music business as an artiste. He recorded songs for different producers, including Henry “Junjo” Lawes, before moving into show production 20 years ago.
