AWE Summit marks Global Entrepreneurship Week with road to recovery focus
In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Youth-For-Development Network (YFDN), in partnership with the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), is hosting a summit amplifying resilience, recovery, and economic empowerment for women-led enterprises across Jamaica.
The summit, being held under the headline “Valuing Our Women (VOW): Vision, Voice & Venture…Together We Build”, is taking place Thursday at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, Kingston.
The summit is especially timely following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which devastated several communities, with women entrepreneurs and families in Hanover among the hardest hit. According to organisers, the event underscores the pivotal role of MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in rebuilding Jamaica’s economy and advancing sustainable development—placing women at the forefront of the recovery agenda.
Kathryn Silvera, President of the Jamaica Manufacturers & Exporters Association, will deliver the keynote address under the headline, “The Future is Female: Using Data to Build Bold, Sustainable Enterprises in Jamaica and Beyond”, which will offer timely insights on the power of data and strategy in growing women-owned businesses.
The day-long summit will also feature AWExhibition: A showcase of 24 women-led businesses from Kingston and Hanover, representing Cohort 4 of AWE Jamaica; Masterclass on Wealth Generation & Recovery with Kalilah Reynolds, AWE Jamaica Money Mission Ambassador; the Pitch Your AWEsome Dream Competition, which will feature 21 AWE finalists pitching live for a chance to win USD $1,500 each in seed funding, mentorship, and business support; Innovation Spotlights featuring leaders like Sheree Martin, Executive VP & COO of NCB Jamaica, on topics including AI, e-commerce, and green entrepreneurship; interactive workshops on self-care, nutrition, business growth, and holistic well-being; Support Drive – Hurricane Melissa Relief Efforts call to action to assist affected MSMEs and communities in rebuilding; and a Closing Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception celebrating the achievements of AWE Cohort 4.
“In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the commitment of these young women to rise, rebuild, and continue their entrepreneurial journey is nothing short of inspiring,” said Lucy Kingsley, International Director of Youth-For-Development Network (YFDN).
“This summit is more than a celebration—it’s a testament to the strength, spirit, and solidarity that define women founders in Jamaica. We are proud to stand with them on the road to recovery.”
Organisers noted that as the nation rallies for inclusive economic recovery, VOW 2025 shines a spotlight on the voices, ventures, and vision of Jamaican women, and reaffirms that the future is indeed female.
