Leroy Sibbles takes A Chance On Love
Personal experience played a big role in the creation of A Chance On Love, the latest song from Leroy Sibbles.
It hears him calling on a prospective lover to take their friendship a step further.
Produced by Donovan Germain for Penthouse Records, the single was recently released.
“Trust in all stages of life is a major concern, and more so when it comes to love. So putting yourself in that position it’s easy for me to relate, knowing that I’ve been there before,” said the veteran singer.
Sibbles wrote the lyrics after hearing the horn-hooked rhythm while passing through Penthouse Records’ Kingston studios. It reminded him of his years at Studio One, as a member of The Heptones, one of the rocksteady era’s greatest acts.
A Chance On Love’s rhythm was originally used for Me And You, a 1968 song by Carlton And The Shoes, released by Studio One.
Sibbles has kept active as an artiste and producer in the past 10 years, releasing a number of songs through his Bright Beam label.
He believes “it is important to stay current because it keeps you in the minds of the people”.
Unlike some of his contemporaries, he embraces his classic songs without fear of being labeledl an oldies artiste.
“[M]y Studio One works is how I got established and is the most popular music I created,” Sibbles noted.
The Heptones were one of the marquee acts at Studio One which was owned by producer Clement “Coxson” Dodd.
Along with Earl Morgan and Barry Llewylyn, Sibbles recorded a flood of hit songs now regarded as classics, including Sea of Love, Fattie Fattie, Baby, Equal Rights, and I Shall be Released.
