Chase Harding and coach take tennis to the inner city
Tennis player and philanthropist Chase Harding and his coach Kashwayne Nelson recently brought tennis to children in the community of Payne Land in Kingston.
They not only taught the youngsters how to play the sport, but also brought refreshments and donated two dozen tennis rackets.
“We did a treat and donated the tennis rackets,” Harding, the son of Grammy-winning and platinum-selling music producer Jeremy Harding, told the Jamaica Observer. “We also set up a net and taught the kids the sport. It was all about building the community, because tennis is not well-known, and we decided to do this for them.
“The overall objective was to really expose these kids to tennis. Tennis has done a lot for many youngsters, including myself. It has brought me to school in the United States; there are so many opportunities that the sport can provide.”
Harding shone on the tennis court during his days attending Campion College. He served as the captain of the school’s tennis team where he led the team to multiple high school tennis championships.
He now attends Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut, in the United States.
“My ultimate goal is to play college tennis and represent Jamaica in the future,” Harding said.
