Gov’t denies report about appointment of new Consul-General to New York
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has denied media reports that a new consul-general to New York has been appointed to replace the late Alsion Marie Wilson.
In a media release Friday morning, the ministry said it was moved to clarify a recent media report regarding the arrangements which have been put in place towards the continuity of business at the Consulate-General of Jamaica at New York.
“The ministry advises that Mrs Ariel Bowen, acting Under-Secretary for Diaspora, Consular and Protocol and Consular Affairs at its headquarters in Kingston, has been deployed to the Consulate General as Officer-in-Charge, to support continuity of operations while the Government proceeds, at the appropriate time, with the established process for appointing a new Consul-General,” the ministry said.
Wilson succumbed after a four-year battle with breast cancer earlier this month. She was 64.
