Main Mistress is on the rise
…Parsard’s filly wins St Elizabeth Distaff in fine style
Trainer Peter-John Parsard is savouring the sweet taste of success after Main Mistress’s impressive win in the $1.5-million St Elizabeth Distaff on Sunday, November 16, 2025, and he’s already looking ahead to bigger and better things for his talented four-year-old, American-bred dark bay/brown filly.
The young trainer’s confidence was understandable, given Main Mistress’s dominant display, storming home to win the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward fillies and mares over one mile (1,600m) by ¾ of a length.
Fearless Force (USA), ridden by Tevin Foster, finished in second place and Sistren Treasure (USA) finished third. Main Mistress, who made all the running, won in a time of 1:39.2, while setting splits of 24.3 x 47.3 x 1:13.2 x 1:26.0.
“I think she [Main Mistress] did fantastic,” Parsard said, beaming with pride.
“She is a horse that we knew had talent. We had been a little concerned or disappointed with some of her runs but we thought she was prepping very well into her last race and I think what we expected the last time out from her, we really saw it today [Sunday],” Parsard told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Parsard praised jockey Raddesh Roman’s brilliant riding and credited the team for their hard work as well.
“She [Main Mistress] faced some good horses from very good barns and she was able to really kind of dominate and outclass the field. I am very happy, I am very proud of her, and obviously I have to mention that the team did a fantastic job. Roman rode her brilliantly; she probably has one of the best grooms at Caymanas Park that looks after her; and so she has a very great programme around her and all of that helped her today to turn into a winner,” he explained.
The trainer is optimistic about Main Mistress’s future, drawing comparisons to another talented horse,
Bootylicious.
“Main Mistress is really doing well. We really think she is a talented horse and so the hope was, similar to Bootylicious, who really turned on the engine into her five-year-old career, this was the hope with this horse,” he said.
Parsard believes Main Mistress has finally turned a corner, and is ready to take her career to the next level.
“We’ve kind of taken off the training wheels off her and we are expecting her to do big things next year,” he noted.
