Marcia Griffiths for 1st Saturday Night Live at Sky Ultra Lounge
In a bid to revive the live Corporate Area music scene, businessman Roderick Graham launches Saturday Night Live at Sky Ultra Lounge on November 29.
Marcia Griffiths, backed by Lloyd Parks and We The People Band, will be the first artiste on the monthly event.
Graham told the Jamaica Observer that after years of attending major shows in Jamaica, the United States and Europe, he decided to promote a live event with broad appeal.
“I just wanted to create an experience that brings people together, celebrates our rich musical heritage, and showcases the best of Jamaican talent to include international acts from different genres of music. It’s a fusion of sounds, a celebration of creativity, and a whole heap a good vibes,” he said.
Kingston was once the hub for Jamaica’s live music beat. In the 1970s the Red Hills Road strip was home to clubs like Tit For Tat and Stable, which had resident bands like Skin, Flesh and Bones, whose ranks included bassist Lloyd Parks and drummer Sly Dunbar.
Graham plans to present a diverse cast of acts to attract different generations of fans.
“When selecting artistes I consider their unique sound, stage presence, and ability to connect with the audience. I look for a mix of local legends, up-and-coming stars, and artistes who bring something special to the table,” he said.
Chaka Demus and Pliers are scheduled to be the second act for Saturday Night Live in December.
