Donovan Phillipps hits 100-win milestone at Caymanas Park
TRAINER Donovan Phillipps was the star at Caymanas Park on Sunday, clinching his 100th career win on the 10-race card.
He celebrated in the third race with his charge Hickory Slim, ridden by Dick Cardenas, who romped home to a comfortable two-and-quarter-length victory over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m).
Hickory Slim beat Uncle Peck (Omar Walker) and Monster Vigorous (Tyrese Anderson) in 1:35.30 minutes.
The race was a Restricted Allowance IV contest for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and imported four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two).
Jockey Dane Dawkins was not to be left out of the celebration party as he rode three winners, including the two trophy races on the day.
Dawkins won aboard Digital One (USA) for trainer Gary Subratie in the $1.25-million Alsafra Trophy feature race, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven and a furlongs (1,500m).
The former champion jockey then won aboard the Richard Azan-trained Hazelnut in the $1.1-million Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup over six furlongs (1,200m).
Dawkins’ other winner was Lucy On The Go for trainer Peter-John Parsard in the fourth race.
Racing continues on Saturday.
