Mt Pleasant take slim lead after first leg of Concacaf Caribbean Cup final
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Mt Pleasant FA have taken a slim 1-0 lead over Universidad O&M FC after Tuesday’s first leg of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup final at Estadio Cibao in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Kimoni Bailey’s first half goal was the difference in the game that started an hour late due to a power failure to the flood lights at the stadium.
The second leg will be played next week at the National Stadium in Kingston as Mt Pleasant will seek to add their name to the number of Jamaican teams to win the title.
Bailey’s goal came just eight minutes into the game, as he redirected a low corner just inside the far left upright giving the Universidad O&M FC no chance.
The Jamaican team thought they had doubled the lead in the 62nd minute when Raheem Edwards who came off the bench to replace Warner Brown two minutes earlier bullied his way through the Universidad O&M FC defence and saw his shot deflected into the goal by defender Julen Olasagasti.
Referee Ricangel de Leça however waived off the goal after he ruled Edwards had handled the ball during the build-up.
