Entrepreneur Donovan Lewis inspires STGC students at boardroom meeting
An unrelenting mindset was among key attributes highlighted by noted investment and wealth manager Donovan Lewis when members of the St George’s College Entrepreneurship Club called on him recently at the offices of the Ideal Securities Broker Ltd.
The boardroom meeting with members of the club and other business studies students set the stage for Lewis’ presentation to the school’s sixth formers and other students islandwide in the final of the institution’s three-part lecture series on The Pioneers of Tomorrow on December 2.
Lewis, a man of humble beginnings who has towered in the field of business and real estate, is the founder of the Ideal Group of Companies and a director of many prominent financial institutions. In a meeting with the students that lasted well over an hour, he provided rationale for his portfolio of investments.

One of the students, Jerome Hayles felt inspired to use time on hand with purpose to ultimately shape his future. He was also taken with the advice that one could not wait until later to figure out one’s goals as by then it could already be too late.
Jordon Hyman believes that the experience was eye-opening – he was particularly pleased that the group was shown the kind of profits to be made from investing in private and public companies. He wants to become an architect and was shown different ways how real estate could be used to build wealth.
Moya McGaw was attentive to how Lewis stressed the importance of writing down goals and setting clear time limits to achieve them, while Shamaria Campbell was swayed with Lewis’ pool of investments and the drive for new ventures.
The value of human endeavour proved pivotal for Deontae Allen as success signaled persistence and hard work and instilling positive values.
The students all agreed that Lewis was frank and open and noted his emphasis on never giving up and the importance of succession planning to sustain what’s achieved.
