Retroville Street Dance kicks off Nov 30
Recording artiste Tanya Stephens is looking to bring cheer to Richmond, St Mary, with the Retroville Street Dance on November 30.
The free event will feature Professor Nuts.
“This first staging happens to fall in a time when all of us need to exhale, and the intention is to help create a bridge back to our typical mood,” Stephens told the Jamaica Observer. “Honestly, I’m trying to recreate the happy parts of my childhood, and Richmond used to have some really great street dances, especially on Grand Market night.”
Entertainment will also be provided by Loverschoice Sound, as well as DJ Dotcom.
The conceptualiser also said she is proud that her vision for the event is finally becoming a reality.
“I have to thank Professor Nuts for his patience. We booked him for September, but delay after delay made us push back [the date], and he has been very easy to work with. I’m grateful because he was my entire list for [the] first staging, and I couldn’t picture beginning with anyone else,” she said.
When asked if she will be performing, Stephens responded: “I will at some point ‘touch the mic’, but I won’t be a featured artiste, because the majority of my popular catalogue is after the 90s.”
The subsequent staging will be on December 28, and the last Sunday of each month that follows.
“Nuff love and ‘big ups’ to everybody from the Heineken Startime series which set a precedent that I really hope I can pay homage to by giving people the same feeling they gave me” Stephens continued.
