Shades of Elegance was never meant to exist — at least not in the eyes of its now-celebrated founder, Treacha Reid, who today also serves as the president, South St Catherine Chamber of Commerce.
As a young single mother with no interest in hairdressing and no aspirations of entering the beauty world, Reid had her sights elsewhere. But when her mother insisted she learn a skill to support her infant daughter, she reluctantly enrolled in cosmetology training unaware that the path she resisted would become the foundation of a 25-year legacy.
Today, the salon-turned-spa stands as a pillar of refinement and feminine expression in the heart of Old Harbour, shaping Jamaica’s beauty culture, nurturing loyal clientele, and redefining what excellence looks like beyond the capital. What started out of need developed into a purposeful business that now serves as a place for women to feel restored and renewed.
