Well done, Fitz-Henley, Tavares-Finson!
Dear Editor,
The late great John Fitzgerald Kennedy is famously quoted as saying, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I am a strong believer that these words are especially applicable in a time of national crisis.
In that vein, I want to commend senators Abka Fitz-Henley and Christian Tavares-Finson, who the
Jamaica Observer recently reported returned to St Elizabeth — after several missions delivering care packages — with building supplies, including cement, zinc, and nails, to assist people affected by Hurricane Melissa.
This follows, as seen on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s Instagram page, similar visits to western Jamaica.
I am a strong believer that the national recovery efforts must be supported by personal endeavour, whereby every Jamaican that is able to assist another who is in need should do what they can and as soon as they can.
Whereas senators Fitz-Henley and Tavares-Finson are concerned, the pivot towards assisting with building supplies, both temporary and sustainable, while also delivering care packages, is also timely.
I am not surprised that two young men from the Fitz-Henleys and Tavares-Finsons have sought to rise to the occasion as both families have given much to Jamaica. They should be encouraged to continue doing more of what they can.
