Rough Treasure Football Showcase postponed due to impact of Hurricane Melissa
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica—The Rough Treasure Football Showcase, scheduled to take place at Treasure Beach and Munro College in St Elizabeth from December 12-16, has been postponed.
The event’s chief organiser, FIFA football agent Sanjay Clacken, announced that the postponement was due to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa on October 28, which severely impacted communities across the island, including the planned hosting venues.
Organisers said their vision remains the same, to create real pathways for Jamaican players to be seen, signed, and continuously supported.
“Our team remains in constant communication with the coaches, scouts, directors in Europe and the focus is firmly on the development and exposure of Jamaican football talent,” a release from organisers said.
They noted that in light of the extensive damage by Hurricane Melissa to homes, roads, communication networks, and essential infrastructure, the safety and well-being of players, coaches, staff, supporters, and the wider community is critical, so they have made the decision to delay the showcase.
“This is an emotional moment for all of us. The Rough Treasure Football Showcase was designed to bring opportunity, excitement, and visibility to Jamaica’s promising young footballers. But today, our focus must shift to standing with the people of Jamaica as we navigate the aftermath of this national disaster. Our team is already working on initiatives to provide urgent support and assistance to those affected. We are committed to doing what we can to help families, communities, and local organisations recover and rebuild,” the statement added.
The organisers insisted that the Rough Treasure Football Showcase will return.
“When it does [return], it will come back as a symbol of resilience and hope, marking a powerful new chapter for our young athletes. We encourage the public to stay tuned for updates on the rescheduled date, which will be announced when conditions allow,” the organisers said.
