Libra-Don offers encouragement with Don’t Lose Faith
Dancehall artiste Libra-Don is offering encouragement to people who have been affected by the passage of Hurricane Melissa, with his latest single Don’t Lose Faith.
The song, produced by Maddmoni Empire, was released on November 4.
“Without a doubt Hurricane Melissa is one of the most devastating hurricanes that has ever hit Jamaica and has caused so much damage and pain, thousands of people have lost their homes, and some didn’t survive. It’s going to take time and a lot of work to rebuild Jamaica, but we can do it if we all unite and work for the greater good of the country,” Libra-Don told Observer Online on Friday.
“Despite all the devastation caused by the hurricane I believe that Jamaica will bounce back and enter a new era of growth and prosperity. We are strong and resilient people and although it might sound cliche we will rise again.”
Libra-Don said he wrote the song after watching news reports about Melissa’s devastating impact on Jamaica.
“Don’t Lose Faith was written in the midst of fear, uncertainty, and a quiet desperation to hold on to hope as Hurricane Melissa raged on. I recorded a rough demo in my home studio, using that moment’s raw emotion to capture the essence before it could fade. Once the vision was clear, the entire process from creation to production took about five days,” he said.
The Connecticut-based deejay is also playing his part in the recovery process.
“My family is originally from Jamaica, and we have relatives in various parts of Westmoreland including Belmont, White House, Bluefields and Grange Hill. So, shortly after the hurricane we sent several barrels of supplies for my relatives and other community members in those areas. Me and my management team MaddMoni Empire plan to do as much as we can, in assisting with the recovery process,” said Libra-Don.
Libra-Don, given name Devon Maddan Jr, was born in the United States to Jamaican parents. He launched his recording in 2022 with the release of a song titled Honest.
