Market Bag: Hot pepper price heats up to $5k, sweet pepper cools to $600
KINGSTON, Jamaica – This week at the Coronation Market in downtown Kingston sees Scotch bonnet prices continue to surge, with some vendors selling the product for as much as $5,000 a pound, up by more than 50 per cent compared to last week.
Consumers will also pay more for tomatoes, with the product selling on average for $800 a pound compared to $600 a week earlier.
Still, it’s not all bad news at ‘Curry’, with some prices cooling, including that of sweet pepper, which is being sold for as low as $600 a pound this week compared to a $1,000 a week ago.
