Romeich criticises corporate companies for ‘not holding strong’ and cancelling Christmas events
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Event promoter and artiste manager Romeich Major is criticising corporate companies for “not holding strong” by postponing Christmas festivities in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which he said provides relaxation for affected employees and keeps the entertainment industry going.
According to Major, in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on YouTube, many large companies have been using Hurricane Melissa as an excuse to cancel Christmas events.
“Me see a lot of corporate companies using now as excuse to not keep Christmas event for dem staff. We are in a crisis where the country was living normal up to 10 months of the year, and then there was a devastation. We nah talk about the little company, we talking the big multi-billion company … you ago say you nah keep no event. When you do that, you turning down the light in Jamaica,” he said.
Major emphasised that Christmas events provide staff with a means of relaxation, especially those impacted mentally due to loss associated with the hurricane.
“You know how many people are devastated with mental things right now. You know how many people the storm hurt them mentally, them not even care about them roof or that but them lose a loved one. Dem go through and see people a blow weh, people a drown so it is a mental thing,” Major said.
“When you as corporate come and cut it down or you as certain people cut it down, we understand if a little man did a put on a party and it cost him half-a-million and all of him saving and him have to fix back, but them big company here…not holding strong and keeping the entertainment going and keeping them events to make them staff feel better,” he continued.
The promoter said he will continue pushing for the entertainment industry to stay afloat.
