Sir Don shatters Mr Sensational Trophy with 16-length romp
Anthony Nunes had barely a sweat on his brow when his young colt Sir Don thundered down the stretch like a runaway train, leaving the competition in the dust to smash the $2-million Mr Sensational Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday, November 29, 2025, winning by a staggering 16 ¼ lengths.
Nunes’ faith in Sir Don’s class was rewarded as the two-year-old American-bred bay colt blitzed the Restricted Stakes contest over 7 furlongs in an appealing clocking of 1:26.1, his third win from as many starts.
“I wasn’t necessarily worried, but we really trained him lightly for the race. We were just hoping that he would use his class and stay the seven furlongs, and he did that, which was nice,” Nunes told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Nunes then outlined cautious next steps for his rising star.
“We will see how he comes out of this race. There’s maybe one opportunity left for him in December, and if not, we will put him up till next year,” Nunes said.
Nunes lauded Sir Don’s raw talent, while acknowledging the path ahead.
“He is talented. Obviously, he is not running against anybody of his ability yet, and I am sure that will come as there are some good horses out there that haven’t raced yet. He will certainly get his test in time, but the most important thing is we want him to stay healthy and sound,” Nunes noted.
Sir Don, with Raddesh Roman in the saddle, broke off well and quickly shot to the front. He held the lead over Midnight Traveller (Tevin Foster), God’s Plan (Omar Walker), and Salute The Don (Dane Dawkins) down the back stretch.
Instead of increasing the tempo at the half-mile (800m) turn, Sir Don eased up the pressure a bit on his rivals, allowing God’s Plan, Salute The Son, and Fernando (Tajay Suckoo) to come with a length.
However, when Roman let the notch loose in deep stretch, Sir Don turned on the power, getting home easily.
Salute The Don finished second and Fernando finished third.
