Dominoes offer JCF members stress buster
IN the demanding and oftentimes perilous world of law enforcement, a simple game is proving to be a powerful antidote to relief stress.
Humbert Davis, president of the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB), couldn’t contain his enthusiasm following the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Area 5 domino tournament held at the Constant Spring Police Station on Friday, November 28.
“It was a huge hit,” he declared, crediting the game of dominoes for helping officers unwind.
For JCF officers, juggling demanding duties and public safety, the game offers a mental breather. Slotting tiles, strategising moves, and laughing with colleagues – it’s a pressure valve in a job where pressure’s constant.
“Dominoes really helps to relax the mind and take the stress off,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
NADB’s partnership with JCF Area 5 spotlighs the hidden power of dominoes.
“These officers face danger daily. [A game of] dominoes lets them switch off, bond, and recharge,” Davis said. As tiles click into place, stress fades.
The tournament’s success has sparked NADB’s next push, expanding the game across JCF units.
“We saw the impact. Now, we want more officers to find their calm in the dots,” Davis smiled.
In a thrilling finale, Superintendent Oral Foster and Sergeant Oneil Brown — the dynamic duo — clinched the NADB domino tournament title. Their strategy, synergy, and smiles stole the show.
Davis beamed: “This win underscores dominoes’ power to bond and destress officers. Foster and Brown proved it’s not just a game — it’s a mental reset for those in high-pressure jobs.”
