Herbert Morrison hunt wins in U-16 basketball
Herbert Morrison Technical Under-16 players will strive to extend their record to four-straight when they play against Holland High and Muschett High at Holland High in the ISSA rural area boys’ basketball competition.
Starting at 11:00 am, four games are scheduled to be contested — three in the Under-16 and one in the Under-19. Organisers have been trying to make up for time lost after a one-month delay to the start of the competition due to the impact of Hurricane Melissa in late October.
Holland High will start their season today after repair to their court in the aftermath of the hurricane.
Herbert Morrison Under-16s have won back-to-back lop-sided games, beating York Castle High 94-30 and Muschett High 108-2 on Thursday in Montego Bay.
In the second game, Muschett High Under-16s will play York Castle.
Herbert Morrison and York Castle are to meet in the Under-19 game for a second time after the Montego Bay-based school previously won 109-19.
On Thursday, Shemar Russell and Michael Johnson both scored 22 points to lead Herbert Morrison Under-16s, as four players got to double digits in the win over Muschett.
Herbert Morrison led 22-0 after the first quarter and were up 45-2 at the half-time break before scoring 63 unanswered points in the second half.
Russell had a triple double as he also had 12 rebounds and 14 steals, while Antonio Kerr had 14 points and six rebounds and Tyler Linton scored 10 points and had 11 steals.
Herbert Morrison Under-19s were leading Ocho Rios High 37-5 with just over five minutes to go to half-time when the officials called off the game due to rain.
Also on Thursday, Knox College beat Christiana High in both sections, while Munro College and Holmwood Technical shared the honours with one win each in their double-header.
Deron Richards scored 22 points and Kobri Tee added 21 for Knox College in their 99-7 victory in the Under-16 game, while their Under-19 team won 71-24.
Holmwood Technical beat Munro College 82-30 in the Under-19 game, with Derrick Jenkins scoring 19 points and Jaden Smith scoring 13.
Munro College won the Under-16 game 38-23, with Chandom Roach scoring 11 points.
