Brown treble leads Harbour View over Spanish Town Police as JPL resumes
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Rohan Brown scored a hattrick to lead Harbour View to a resounding 5-2 win over promoted Spanish Town Police as the Jamaica Premier League resumed Sunday after a hiatus due to Hurricane Melissa in late October.
The win was Harbour View’s third of the season and moved them up to seventh place in the tables on 11 points as second placed Portmore United and third placed Racing United also scored wins over Arnett Gardens and Molynes United respectively.
Caribbean Cup champions Mount Pleasant FA failed to make a winning restart as they were held 0-0 at Dunbeholden.
At Harbour View, Brown scored in the fourth, 27th and 90th minutes for the home team, while Roshawn Oldfield and Trayvone Reid added goals in the 34th and 42nd minutes.
Spanish Town Police rallied to score two late consolation goals courtesy of substitute Roja Layne in the 81st minute and Chevon Walters in the 88th.
Portmore United cut the deficit on leaders Montego Bay United to one point after their close 1-0 win over Arnett Gardens thanks to a fourth minute own goal from Joel Jones.
Portmore have played 10 games and are on 21 points, one point behind Montego Bay who will play defending champions Cavalier on Monday.
Tajay Ajani Grant scored a double for Racing in their 3-2 come from behind win over Molynes for whom Marlon Pennicooke also scored a brace.
Four of the five goals in the game were scored in a 13-minute span in the first half. Pennicooke gave Molynes the lead in the 22nd minute, Grant equalised in the 33rd minute; Pennicooke restored his team’s lead in the 35th minute before Chavany Willis drew Racing level at 2-2 in the 37th minute. Grant then scored the winner in the 46th minute.
