Robert Minott gains buzz with ‘Link Up’ on Pretty Little Baby instrumental remake

Reggae artiste Robert Minott is pleased with the enthusiastic response to his latest single, Link Up, released on a remake of an instrumental inspired by the 1960s hit Pretty Little Baby rhythm.

“The response to the song has been phenomenal, especially in markets like Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles,” Minott said.

“The song is boosted by the fact that it is on a similar rhythm track as the Elephant Man remake of the Connie Francis hit song so the disc jockeys have been playing the songs together, plus TikTok influencers have begun using the sound.”

The Pretty Little Baby revival on Instagram is a social media trend using Connie Francis’ 1962 song of the same name. The track has become a viral sensation, with users creating videos featuring nostalgic edits and vintage fashion montages, often using the song to highlight their children or pets.

Minott has fast-tracked plans to shoot a video for the Link Up project. He performed at the Cali Radfest in Vista, California where he was backed by a live reggae band. Other performers at the California reggae event included Indica Roots, Tafari Watkiess, The Shroomz and The Hidden City.

“My music is really starting to gain traction on the Cali reggae scene,” Minott said.

A nephew of the late Sugar Minott, born and raised in St Andrew, Jamaica, Robert migrated to the United States in 1974 and released his first album titled All I Have Is Love in 1988.

As a recording artiste, he has performed alongside the likes of some of reggae’s biggest names, including Burning Spear, Shaggy, Maxi Priest and Ziggy Marley, to name a few.

He is best known for singles such as Right Man Fi Yuh which charted well on the New York and South Florida Reggae charts, and a cover of Silver Words which featured rapper Kirkie KBZ. Silver Words hit the charts in Jamaica and opened up new doors for the singer.

In 2014, Robert Minott released his new album Splendid Woman.
