TRANSJAM Highways partners with JCF to strengthen highway safety
KINGSTON, Jamaica—TransJamaican Highway Limited (TJH) says it has concluded a joint vehicular inspection exercise with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) geared towards improving safety across Jamaica’s highway network.
According to TJH in a media release, during the joint operation conducted on December 4 between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, a total of 97 motor vehicles were stopped, 62 vehicles were searched, 30 registration plates were removed for non-compliance with road safety regulations, and 61 traffic tickets were issued, including three for unsecured loads.
The checkpoints were located in the vicinity of the Vineyards Toll Plaza and Old Harbour Road and were designed to identify vehicles which were not roadworthy or operating illegally.
“Our partnership with the JCF and the Island Traffic Authority underscores our long-term commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient highway system. Public education, law enforcement, and collaboration remain central to our strategy for reducing incidents and promoting responsible driving habits,” said Mark Walker, deputy operations manager at the TransJam Group.
He also shared that TransJam Highways will continue to support and invest in road safety initiatives that align with its mission of ensuring a secure and reliable highway experience for all motorists.
In October of this year, the company launched an advertising campaign aimed at re-sensitising motorists to critical safe-driving practices.
The campaign highlighted the importance of adhering to speed limits, ensuring tyres are roadworthy before travelling, using indicators when changing lanes, and carefully checking the roadway to avoid collisions, among other key safety reminders.
