Dane Nelson scores double win on return to Caymanas Park
Dane Nelson made a splash returning to Caymanas Park on Saturday, December 6, 2025 when he booted home two noticeable winners on the 10-race Mouttet Mile Day programme.
Nelson, a four-time local and two-time international champion jockey, fresh from Canada, won aboard
Linguist in the $1.5-million Mayberry Gold Trophy, Division 1 of a Restricted Stakes contest for three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
He then closed out his double aboard Wicked Cassie in the $1.15-million Legend (Wisynco Group) Trophy, a Restricted Allowance IV contest for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (Non-winners of three) and imported four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) over 7 furlongs.
Trained by Anthony “Baba” Nunes, Linguist had finished second behind winner Fred The Master (Robert Halldeen). However, the bay filly was promoted to first place after Fred The Master was disqualified and placed third behind Nuclear Jet (Dane Dawkins) for causing interference to Nuclear Jet, who finished third was promoted to second place. The winning time was 1:26.2.
Wicked Cassie, trained by Patrick “Wacky” Lynch, came from behind runners to beat Noble Sovereign (Tajay Suckoo) and Princess Fiannie (Tevin Foster) by eight lengths. The winning time was 1:28.4.
