Man in custody following alleged abduction of missing 6-y-o in Clarendon
CLARENDON, Jamaica — Head of the Clarendon police Senior Superintendent Shane McCalla, has confirmed that a man was taken into custody after a missing six-year-old girl was found in his company on Tuesday afternoon in May Pen.
The child identified by police as Anka Glasgow of Inglewood Drive, Victoria Avenue, Clarendon was reported as missing from school about 2:30 pm on Tuesday.
Just over two hours later, the child was found in the company of the man on Glenmuir Road near the intersection with the Bustamante Highway.
When asked if the police were informed as to whether the man is mentally unstable, McCalla said efforts are now being made to ascertain his identity and place him before the courts.
“The court is to determine whether he is to get a psychiatric evaluation if that is the case,” said McCalla.
The police chief also confirmed that Councillor Scean Barnswell (People’s National Party, Hayes division) accosted the man before handing him over to the police.
“The police were in the same area. He (Barnswell) raised an alarm, and the team just moved in,” said McCalla.
The commanding officer said the child appeared unharmed, but the girl was brought to a medical facility for an examination.
