NSWMA expresses condolences after nine-year-old mowed down by garbage truck
MANCHESTER, Jamaica —The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has expressed condolences to the family of nine-year-old Amoya Moore who was mowed down by a garbage truck while on her way to school on Tuesday in Mandeville.
The authority in a statement on Tuesday said: “It is with profound sorrow that the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) confirms that one of our compactor trucks assigned to SPM Waste Management Limited was involved in a tragic accident this morning, at approximately 7 am along Bonitto Crescent in Mandeville Manchester, resulting in the death of a child.”
“Our hearts are with the family affected by this unimaginable loss, and we extend our deepest condolences. Details of the accident are sketchy at this time; however, the police are on the scene carrying out investigations,” the authority continued.
Preliminary reports are that shortly before 7:00 am the child left her home off Bonitto Crescent and was walking downhill when a garbage truck struck her.
The child’s body was reportedly dragged a few metres before the truck stopped.
