‘Unity Inna Di City’
SMA to roll out wellness fair for residents of downtown on Friday
THE Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) will offer a helping hand to residents of downtown Kingston on Friday with the staging of a community wellness fair.
Dubbed Unity Inna Di City – Help and Healing, Love Fi All and Wi Deh Yah, the initiative — to be staged in the SMA parking lot at 13-19 Harbour Street between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm — will be geared at fostering mental health awareness and enhancing community well-being while reinforcing the bonds that connect residents.
“Our purpose is to unite neighbours, families, and individuals seeking care and support through uplifting activities during this season — celebrating our resilience as a community amidst the challenges we have faced together,” said Dr Maria Myers-Hamilton, managing director of SMA, which manages Jamaica’s radio frequency spectrum.
“At SMA, we recognise that fostering community wellness extends beyond our primary responsibilities. This gathering offers us an invaluable opportunity to give back to those communities that hold a special place in our hearts by not only delivering essential health services but also nurturing hope and unity as we embark on this collective healing journey — Love Fi All,” added Myers-Hamilton.
Attendees will benefit from various services including blood pressure screenings, eye tests, and HIV testing, provided by doctors and nurses from University Hospital of the West Indies.
Additionally, wellness advice from Leahcim Semaj will be shared, including a special segment titled ‘Coping after the Storm’.
Children will have access to an early childhood stimulation corner and a reading area designed to foster learning and imagination, supported by the Early Childhood Commission. Fun activities and give-aways for youth will be offered, ensuring that all members of the community can engage and benefit from the day.
The event will also see the distribution of 200 care packages to families and individuals in need.
In addition, the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) will be on-site to offer 50 free birth certificates to eligible residents, with a focus on children. Citizens will also be able to register for National Identity System (NIDS) cards.
SMA will join forces with a diverse range of partners including Roots FM, Sagicor Life Jamaica, AFH Jamaica, and other organisations which contribute vital resources and services to the community.
The SMA is encouraging all downtown Kingston residents to attend the wellness initiative where services will be offered without charge.
