Racing, Chapelton in midweek JPL contest
Racing United could take over second place in the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League with a win over hosts Chapelton Maroons in the game at Turners Oval. Kick off is slated for 3:00 this afternoon.
The Anthony Patrick-coached Racing United, who have played nine games, are in third place on 18 points, three behind second-placed Portmore United who have played 10 games.
A win would see St Catherine-based Racing assume second place on goal-difference or more goals scored.
Racing are coming off a close 3-2 win over Molynes United and will be seeking back-to-back wins for the first time in six rounds.
They should go into the game with a psychological edge, having beaten the Clarendon-based Chapelton on all three occasions when they met last season. A defeat would only to add to the worries of Chapelton, who have earned one point from their last five games.
Elsewhere, Arnett Gardens FC, who are enduring a tepid run of form and are just above the relegation places, are to play away to rock-bottom Spanish Town Police FC at Drewsland Stadium. That clash is also set to start at 3:00 pm.
Perennial contenders Arnett Gardens are in an unfamiliar position, in 12th place on nine points from eight games. They have conceded 15 goals, the joint-third worst among the 14 teams in the competition.
Both Arnett Gardens and Spanish Town Police have lost their last six games combined, making today’s game pivotal for both as they hope to escape the foot of the points table.
Spanish Town Police have found the going tough and were on the wrong end of a 2-5 result against Harbour View FC on Sunday. Spanish Town Police and Molynes United are the only teams yet to score a victory so far this season.
