Rebuilding Brick by Brick
Woman Ignite Foundation launches rebuild initiative to restore homes for single mothers affected by Hurricane Melissa
THE Woman Ignite Foundation (WIF) has launched its Brick by Brick rebuild initiative, a nationwide effort to restore homes and stability for single mothers severely affected by Hurricane Melissa. The initiative was officially announced at the Woman Ignite Success Summit (WISS) launch on November 27.
Hurricane Melissa displaced families across several parishes, leaving many women without safe shelter. In response, WIF is mobilising local and international partners to help rebuild homes, provide essential resources, and support long-term recovery.
The first phase will assist at least five single mothers in the hardest-hit parishes.
The initiative follows a year of significant impact for the foundation. In its 2025 impact report WIF recorded over 100 counselling and therapy sessions for women through its Women at Risk (WAR) initiative, behavioural therapy for beneficiaries’ children, workforce training for 14 women, and critical emergency interventions including food, maternity, job placement and crisis support.
Additionally, five mothers received back-to-school assistance.
“Our mandate has always been to help women rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and hope,” said founder Keneshia Nooks-Blake. “Brick by Brick is our decisive response to this national moment. When we restore a woman’s home, we restore her confidence, her family’s future, and ultimately the strength of Jamaica.”
At the media launch GK General Insurance pledged $350,000, while Apostle Stephanie Okafor (WISS 2026 speaker) committed US$5,000, demonstrating strong local and international support for the initiative.
All proceeds from the upcoming WISS 2026 — scheduled for January 31, 2026 — will also directly support the Brick by Brick Rebuild Initiative.
WIF is inviting individuals, corporations, churches, and Diaspora groups to join the mission.
“Every dollar becomes a brick,” said Tammara Glaves-Hucey, advisory board member. “Together, we will rebuild homes, restore hope, and strengthen families.”
