STETHS, Dinthill record vital wins to boost daCosta Cup semi-final charge
Kemps Hill stun Cornwall College
Former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Dinthill Technical scored important wins in the ISSA daCosta Cup football quarter-finals on Wednesday to put themselves in a good position to qualify for the semi-finals.
Unfancied Kemps Hill High was also victorious to keep themselves in the hunt.
STETHS scored a comprehensive 4-0 win over Christiana High at Manchester High, while Dinthill Technical edged visitors Clarendon College 2-1 as both stayed tied on four points in Group B.
Kemps Hill pulled off the surprise of the day when they defeated Cornwall College 3-1 in the Group A match at Glenmuir High to draw level on three points with the former champions.
Glenmuir High lead Group A on six points after beating McGrath High 4-0 on Tuesday. Glenmuir have a healthy goal-difference of five.
Timar Roach hit a double and Deandre Barnett and RJay Newman also got on the score sheet as STETHS routed Christiana High.
Roach, who is also STETHS’s back up goalkeeper had already scored three times in the first round of the competition.
Lenworth Hyde, the Dinthill head coach, got the better of Clarendon College whom he famously won titles for as player and coach. Hyde’s team ran out 2-1 winner on Wednesday. Previously this season, Dinthill and Clarendon played out a 0-0 draw at the round-of-32 stage.
Kemps Hill maintained their script of losing the first game of the round before bouncing back. This time around they beat Cornwall College 3-1, avenging a 0-2 reverse to the St James-based team in the round of 32.
Robert Donaldson, in the 14th minute, and Greg Hamilton five minutes later put Cornwall on the backfoot, before Shemar Daley made the scors 3-0 with a 29th-minute penalty conversion.
Carlondo Morris, with his 32nd goal of the season, managed to pull one back for Cornwall College in the 42nd minute.
